The Japan eVisa is an electronic visa for Japan. It allows you to enter the country and stay for up to 90 days.

The electronic visa is a single-entry travel permit that is valid to enter Japan for 3 months from the date of issue.

You can get your eVisa for Japan through the online application system. You just need to provide your personal details, passport data, and contact information.

Documentation requirements for Japan eVisa

You only need a few items to apply for a Japan eVisa

  • Email address
  • Valid passport
  • Image of passport information page
  • Digital photo of the applicant
  • Itinerary with flight information
  • Proof for travel expenses
  • Schedule of stay
  • Document to prove legal residency (eg. Identification card)
  • Parental consent form (if applying for a minor)

Those applying for a Japan eVisa tourism also need to provide a valid document to prove a legal residency in one of the countries approved.

Travel details

  • Intended date of entry to Japan
  • Intended date of exit to Japan
  • Purpose of visit
  • Airline name
  • Flight number or vessel name
  • Airport / seaport of arrival in Japan
  • Phone number and address of inviting person
  • Name of accommodation or host
  • Address and phone number of accommodation

Applicants are also asked to answer a couple of questions about whether they have been in Japan within the last year and how many days they stayed.

If you are traveling with minors, you must also indicate this and provide the passport numbers of the minor(s).

Once you have completed the form, you will receive an email confirming the request has been processed.

You will then receive your visa issuance notice by email. This should then be printed to present to airline staff when boarding a flight to Japan.

Check Status of your Japan eVisa

Once you have submitted the online Japan eVisa application, you will receive all notifications and updates by email.

The processing time is usually within 5 day. Sometimes applications take longer to process, up to 7 days.
